Castle Park, also known as the grounds of Belfast Castle, offers a fantastic day out for families. Spread across 40 acres, the estate features beautiful gardens, including a Japanese rock garden and heritage rose garden, plus woodland trails leading up Cave Hill with stunning views over Belfast Lough.
Facilities include a café, toilets, and ample free parking. The castle itself is a stunning Scottish baronial mansion, but it is primarily a wedding and events venue, so the interior is not generally open to the public. For families, the main draws are the play area, picnic spots, and gentle walks. Dogs are welcome on leads, and there are plenty of benches for parents to relax.
Practical tips: The park can get busy on sunny weekends, so arrive early. The terrain includes some slopes, but the playground and main lawns are pushchair-friendly. Children will love feeding the ducks on the pond and exploring the fairy trail in the woods. Ages 2-12 will especially enjoy the playground, but older kids can appreciate the walks and views.
