Sugar Loaf (Welsh: Mynydd Pen-y-fΓ’l) is a distinctive conical peak in the Brecon Beacons National Park, near Abergavenny. It offers a moderately challenging but family-friendly hike with stunning panoramic views from the summit.

Highlights for families:
- The summit trig point with 360Β° views of the Black Mountains and surrounding valleys.
- A clear, well-trodden path that is manageable for children aged 5+ with good walking ability.
- Plenty of opportunities for picnicking, photography, and geocaching.

Facilities: There is a free car park at the Llanfoist base (postcode NP7 9LS). No toilets or refreshments on the mountain, but the nearby village of Abergavenny has cafes and shops. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water; the path can be steep and muddy after rain.

Practical tip: Start early to avoid crowds, and check weather conditions – the summit is exposed. Suitable for a half-day outing.
